Name: Mingus Lucien Reedus, 21

Location: New York City

d.RT: What is your go-to outfit if you’re dressing only for yourself ... not the internet, not your peers, not trying to meet anyone else’s expectations?

Mingus: I never dress to meet anyone’s expectations other than my own. My usual go-to outfit that I wear when I am home alone is baggy sweatpants and a graphic T-shirt. That choice is heavily based around comfort—but I also think it has a flare to it and it always gets my attention whenever I randomly catch myself in the mirror.

d.RT: Who or what inspires you?

Mingus: Mystery inspires me. Not knowing what will come next is what excites me about life. Also: Iggy Pop.

d.RT: Describe yourself using your favorite book, album or movie.

Mingus: My favorite book Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Gillian McCain describes a punk attitude from a previous generation that I wish I had been a part of. My favorite album Amygdala by DJ Koze is tattooed on my gut and reminds me to stay creative and present with my own musical endeavors.

d.RT: What social justice movement are you currently moved by the most? How do you get involved?

Mingus: I support numerous social justice movements. The most relevant being Black Lives Matter and animal rights. Although I might not be in a position—yet—where I can help as much as I'd like, I do think that everybody has the ability to take a stand and do their best to spread awareness and positivity.

d.RT: What 3 things do you think every young man should know how to do before he leaves home?

Mingus: Know how to feed yourself. Don’t go from your mama's cooking to Taco Bell for breakfast. Also, know how to talk to people—as nobody is there to speak for you. Finally, befriend yourself. Cherish your time with yourself because you're the coolest person you will ever know.
